Great stuff man.

So, I just found out your alias is Space Laces. I had no idea. Kinda blew my mind. Congrats on your success. I just knew that your extreme talent would lead you to success. I especially love your remix of X Rated. Hell, everything you've done so far is wicked. I have no idea how you make those basses so nasty and wet sounding. Also, you're a weird dude (In the best way possible). I thought you had quit making music or something, so I'm really glad you're making incredible stuff. Keep it up!

Me gusta

This is so sick it's not even funny. I love the drums. They're very punchy and have a utterly satisfying groove. I also love the vowel-y basses. It sounds like an epic dubstep cannon charging up then firing a city-destroying blast of bass.

Btw, I really appreciate you still posting stuff here even though you're getting pretty popular, not to mention signed. Most people from newgrounds that get signed just ditch Newgrounds, but not you good sir. You've been a pro for a while now and it's really cool to see you get the recognition you deserve.

Dear Lord

Those basses... blew. my. mind. Please tell me you're making a full version!
Skrillex has nothin on you :o seriously.

The only criticism I have is that I don't think the snare is loud enough and punchy enough. Other than that, this is sick.

Rig responds:

A full version is coming this week for the NGADM! :D

WIPs galore! :D

My favorites:
1:22 - Really funky.
2:46 - Has the potential for some sick bass sequences.
3:00 - The bass(es) sound very Noisia-ish
3:23 - Nice and jumpy.
3:55 - I like the chord progression and the sidechained pad
4:23 - By far my favorite WIP of the collection. The chord progression is beautiful and the bass section is very heavy and full. PLEASE FINISH THIS ONE!!!!!!
5:18 - Nice chord progression and build.
5:53 - I love the percussion. The chord progression's nice too.
6:35 - Great all around.

Anyway, these are some great-sounding WIPs you have here.
Again, the one starting at 4:23 is amazing! Please please please finish it!

Nice!

Nice job on this! I think the vocals could be turned up more. Other than that, good song.

So Sick!!!

This track is beyond filthy man. The drums are beefy and the reese is so twisted and nasty. I'd say that this would be label worthy if it we're for the sub-par mixing and lack of any kind of buildup.

Mixing wise, the mids sound a bit muddy and treble is a bit lacking. Maybe you could make the reese sound more stereo (via panning or something similar) instead of mono, which it is currently. I think that would give it more presence and make it sound even more badass. Also, the drums need needs to be tighter. They are quite beefy, but if you increase the treble on the snare and raise the volume of the hihats, they'll sound much better. The kick sounds good, though.

Structure wise, it seems to jump right into the heavy stuff without any kind of buildup. It sounds like :38 is the drop, so I'd suggest you leave out the drums and reese until the drop (or at least highpass them) and right before the drop, I'd focus on adding a buildup, like a long reversed cymbal, a sound rising in pitch, and/or something like that to make the drop more brutal.
I like the creepy vibe in the intro, though. It adds a lot to the track.
However, there isn't much of an outro. It sounds like you left off the ending or something. It just doesn't feel complete. Even if it's something similar to the intro, it'd still be better than no ending at all.

Well, hope this helps. Normally, I don't give long, detailed reviews like this, but you deserve it. You have insane talent man, so keep it up!

SteakJohnson responds:

thanks for the long review! yea most of my weakness lies in eqing/mixing/mastering stuff... (probably bcuz all a 16yr old can afford is damn skullcandy headphones)

Planning on getting monitors... hopefully soon lol.

Yay Free Samples!

Thanks for da samples Rig. They sound badass. like some fucked up robot

Just curious, how did you make em? and in what program?

Rig responds:

The original sound source is a pair of nail clippers and an Allen wrench, actually. I recorded them getting hit together and such, then I did some speed/granulation effects and ran it through a special vocoder patch.

This was all done with FL Studio and Edison.

Pretty cool!

I liked this. The vocals were a nice touch. They added to the mood. I really like the melody(s). The drums a good, especially the hi-hat. However, I do have criticism. Personally, I think it's way too short. Maybe you could add a breakdown to bring out the melodies a bit more and introduce some new elements like a new lead and/or a baseline. Then bring the drums back in with the new elements.
Also, I think it lacked bass. Maybe a reese or a simple sine sub.
Overall, it's a cool tune. I agree with you that it could swing either way in the death match. Good luck!

length was something i was having a hard time in with this one, and i was running short on time, and i rarely get time to work

glad you liked it man, good luck

WOW!

I'm blown away by this song! It's so professional sounding. You have a great voice. It fit's perfectly with the music. I love the sound of the piano. The delay and reverb and other effects add a lot to it. All of the instruments fit together and sound good. It's well mixed and mastered.

My only critique is that I think you could add more to the drums than just a kick. Maybe you could start out with a kick and then add more to the drums as the song progresses.

Other than that, I can't find anything wrong with the song. Great job on this! :)
